Prove that if a, b, and c are integers and sqrt(b^2 – 4ac) is not an integer, then (-b +/- sqrt(b^2 – 4ac))/2a is irrational.
There is a theorem stating that for any positive integer n, sqrt(n) is either an integer or is irrational. Not sure if that is useful. Thanks in advance.
